1894: Legislature adopts official state flag of Mississippi
The new flag depicted the stars and bars of the Confederacy in the upper left corner. It replaced the Magnolia Flag.
1894: Belhaven College founded in Jackson

Dr. Lewis T. Fitzhugh founded the Belhaven College for Young Ladies. It was acquired by the Presbyterian Church in 1911.
