1821: Jackson established as state capital
Charged with determining the site for the state capital, Thomas Hinds, William Lattimore, and Peter Van Dorn recommended LeFleur’s Bluff on Pearl River. The Legislature ordered the three commissioners to survey the new city, named after General Andrew Jackson.
