1970: Henry S. Jacobs Camp opens in Utica
Jewish parents in Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, and western Tennessee create the region’s first Jewish summer camp. Designed to provide religious instruction and a uniquely Jewish social environment, the camp continues to serve Jews in the Deep South. Winona native Macy B. Hart led the camp for its first thirty years.

Two students were killed and twelve were wounded when Jackson police fired on the protesters at the college campus.

His body was found two days later in the Sunflower River.
