1920: “College Orchestra” formed at Mississippi Normal College

The orchestra is now called the University of Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra.

August 18, 1920: Women win right to vote

Although the required three-fourths of the states ratified the 19th amendment granting suffrage to women, Mississippi did not ratify it until 1984.
